Aquarium Day is a short film about observing humans during their day at the aquarium. The film will be my graduation film for the Master of Animation (St. Joost).
Below is a finished scene, so you can get a taste for the vibe of the film, which will be about 4 to 5 minutes long.
The project started from a fascination with the aquarium itself and the awkward, mundane moments happening within it. Picture a group of middle schoolers huddled around a Nintendo DS while a lonely stingray drifts by behind them.
I started collecting images and moments I remembered from the aquarium. These moments will be shown in vignette-style scenes, without any particular narrative.
The only narrative element is the rhythm of the aquarium. Opening time to closing time.
Every background featured in the film is hand-drawn with pencil on paper. The crude, cartoonish humans are in stark contast to the odd beauty of the aquarium.
